Fire Charlie Weis!
Welcome to Fire Charlie Weis!
After a disgraceful one year stint as the Florida Gator’s “offensive” coordinator, Big Charlie Weis has somehow been hired as the head football coach of the University of Kansas! Since the University of Florida finished so well in 2011 (They finished 7-6 in the regular season, and winded up unranked for only the second time in 21 years), the Gator’s were not so reluctant to let Charlie move on. UF did not have to Fire Charlie Weis. That will be the Kansas Jayhawks fans’ job. You have the Power! Don’t let your program be destroyed by this terrible coach. Fire Charlie Weis!
He was embarrassing when he was the head coach of Notre Dame. He was even worse on the Gators? Will Charlie turn around the Turner Gill debacle, or will he keep his terrible streak alive and keep Kansas in the basement? We will have to wait and see. I wonder what the Vegas odds for Chuck getting fired??
Charlie Weis got most of his reputation as an offense genius due to the success with the New England Patriots in 2000-2003. (We now know that he had very little to do with that since the Patriots have been a top 5 offense every year since he left). Charlie Weis used his temporary acclaim to accept the head coaching job of Notre Dame University in 2004.
On November 30, 2004, after finishing its football season with a 6–5 record, Notre Dame released head coach Tyrone Willingham. After first choice Urban Meyer (Tim Tebow‘s best friend) accepted the head coaching position at the University of Florida, the university ultimately hired Weis, who was named Notre Dame’s 28th head football coach on December 12, 2004. Weis signed a six-year contract worth a reported $2 million per year. The years in South Bend were rocky…
After 4 mediocre years, especially on the offensive side of the ball, the Fighting Irish finished the 2009 regular season with a 6–6 record. A poor record for the season in addition to high preseason expectations for the team, including a preseason top 25 ranking, caused widespread speculation that Notre Dame would fire Weis. They were right. Notre Dame Fired Charlie Weis on November 30, 2009. He was succeeded by Brian Kelly.
Charlie then sulked back to the NFL, but kept his eye out for his next college program to ruin. Weis was named offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs by head coach Todd Haley (with whom Weis coached for the New York Jets under Bill Parcells) on January 8, 2010
With fellow former Patriots Defensive Coordinator Romeo Crennel, and under former Patriots Quarterback Matt Cassel, the 2010 Cheifs actually finished with 10 wins and made the playoffs. This allowed him to get back much of the reputation that he lost at Notre Dame and become the offensive Coordinator for the new head coach of the University of Florida, Will Muschamp. The Gator’s were hoping Weis could reform the Gator’s offensive around a pro-style offensive, instead of the split-option that was Urban Meyer’s preferred style. UF Quarterback John Brantley, Tim Tebow’s successor, was not suited for the split-option and the hope was that Charlie could bring a sharp, pass orientated pocket-passing gameplan that would be perfect for the strong, accurate John Brantley.
Unfortunately, Charlie Weis did not succeed in doing this. UF finished 8th in offensive in the SEC. That is horrible. The Gator’s did not have a chance to Fire Charlie Weis. He resigned to take the Kansas Head Coach position. Jayhawks, do not let this happen to you. Start the campaign to Fire Charlie Weis now so that when he struggles and you realize that he needs to go, you will be ready! You can leave messages here and we’ll add you to the Fire Charlie Weis Petition!
